I had been eyeing the much talked about Spanx Faux Leather leggings for over a year before I decided to take the plunge. They were definitely a bit of a splurge for me, and I was worried they wouldn’t be comfy or I wouldn’t wear them a ton. The verdict: these are 100% worth the hype.
Since they’re included in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (and the classic black pair basically never goes on sale otherwise), I thought I’d do an in-depth review for you guys and show some of the ways I’m excited to style them this fall. If you’ve been thinking about getting these, I hope this post can help you make an informed decision!
The Fit & Details
I actually tried these on in store (this was pre-pandemic), and I brought in both my normal Small and a Medium into the fitting room. The Smalls looked very small on the hanger, but the Sales Associate helping me said to go with my true size, and that they would stretch and mold to the body throughout the day. The Smalls definitely took some effort to get on haha, but once I did they were actually super comfortable and looked fantastic. These definitely pass the Netflix test for me – I can sit in them for hours comfortably. The Mediums worked too, but I could tell that if they stretched out even a little bit they’d be too big. So, these are true to size, but I would size up if you’re between sizes.
They’re high-waisted (over the belly button on me), tight all the way down to the ankle, and not at all see through. I also love that they have no front seam!
If you’re initially a little put off by the “faux-leather” description, don’t be. It’s actually quite subtle and doesn’t look tacky or overdone at all. They have a sheen to them, and I love that it makes them more dressy than basic leggings. They are actually super versatile and work for going out as well as casual athleisure looks!
How to Style Spanx Leggings
I love Spanx leggings dressed down like this with a graphic tee, white sneakers, and a denim shirt tied around the waist. This is how I’d wear them as the summer starts to wind down!
They are also perfect with a casual long sleeve tee layered with a cozy cardigan! My leopard cardi is from Amazon, and is a great dupe for the Barefoot Dreams one. Also can you tell I like leopard! lol
At it again with the leopard print! But I think this is a fun way to wear the faux leather leggings at the beginning of fall, and shows that you can style them with sandals too!
These leggings are also the perfect thing to wear with really oversized sweaters! I think this outfit works well with white sneakers for a fun, casual athleisure look, and you could definitely throw a utility jacket over this when it gets a bit cooler out!
I love pairing my Spanx leggings with all the fall colors and a variety of textures. This look would be so cute to wear out on a chilly evening.
Spanx leggings are also the perfect thing to wear with over the knee boots! I love how sleek yet cozy this outfit is – I’d wear this to go out in the late fall and winter. This would also be a great outfit for the holidays because Spanx + oversized sweater = food baby friendly!
Because of the faux leather texture, I find these leggings really work in a basic outfit like this. I’d wear this out doing errands or even just hanging out at home (with slippers!). Since we will be spending a lot of time at home this fall, pieces like this that are comfy but still make me feel put together are exactly what I’ll be living in.
This is a quintessential fall outfit for me: an oversized flannel shirt with a slouchy cardigan and Spanx leggings. Comfortable enough to hang around at home in, but also put together.
This post would not be complete without an all black look! I love how the texture of the leggings contrasts with the chunky knit and adds interest. And I couldn’t resist adding the camel booties – black and camel will always be one of my favorite color combinations!
Putting together these looks was so much fun, and really got me in the mood for fall! If you have your eye on the Spanx leggings, I really recommending grabbing them during the NSale – it’s the best deal you’ll get on them!
