July Faves

I still cannot believe it’s already August – this year is just going by so fast at times and slow at other times.

I’ve decided to expand my monthly Top 5 Purchases post into a more general “faves” post, sharing a whole bunch of things I loved from that month including books, podcasts, products, films, etc. I’m excited to have a spot to put the things I want to recommend that don’t necessarily warrant a whole blog or IG post! So let’s get into it!

1. Umbra Jewelry Stand

I had actually been eyeing this jewelry stand for quite awhile, and I’m so happy I finally got it! It’s pretty tall, so it’s perfect for most necklaces, and keeps them from getting tangled. I’m sure Arno’s happy about it, because tangles send me into a rage in about 4 seconds so I’d always get him to untangle my necklaces haha. I love that the bottom is actually a little tray for earrings, rings, etc! Pretty + functional is definitely my jam.

2. Amazon Kimono

This kimono screams summer to me. I love the colors, the pattern, and the dramatic duster length. It makes me feel glam and laid back at the same time, and isn’t that summer at it’s best? This is a one size fits all, and it’s quite roomy, I’d say it fits like a M/L. It’s quite long even on me (I’m 5’8″ for reference), so if you’re petite it might be too long if you don’t wear heels.

3. Middle Ground Podcast

This is a new podcast by Jo Johnson and Caroline Stelte and it’s already become something I look forward to every Monday. They tackle everything from body image, personal branding, self-starting, and manifesting with kindness, insight, and humor. I love how different Jo and Caroline are and their friendship is so inspiring! Their podcast also has a cute Instagram account!

4. AE Biker Shorts

I’ll admit I wasn’t convinced about the whole biker shorts thing at first. But as I saw photos of them slowly take over my feed, and I realized that they are indeed the perfect thing for hanging out at home in the summer, I decided to give them a try.

I’m super picky though, and needed to find a pair without the annoying center seam. This pair is seam-free, and I love the slightly shiny material. When I first opened the package I thought they’d be way too small, but once I got them on I found they fit perfectly. These are so comfy, don’t ride up, and fit TTS. They definitely have compression, but they mold to your body throughout the day. I noticed some reviewers saying they run small, but I recommend going with your true size and giving them a chance to stretch.

I did a little styling session on IG with these, and I’m pleasantly surprised at how versatile they are!

5. The Hate U Give Film

Arno and I watched this movie the other night and stayed up till 1am talking about it. What a phenomenally powerful film. It’s about Starr Carter, a Black teenage girl in America, who witnesses her friend being shot and killed by a police officer. The film explores how Starr grapples with that trauma and her own experiences of racism, and how she decides to use her voice. The acting is brilliant, and the movie handles the subject matter with such nuance; really showing what Starr and her community are going through. I truly feel like art is one of the best ways to build understanding of experiences that are different from our own, so I highly recommend this film to everyone, especially to my white followers. It’s based off of a book by Angie Thomas, which is definitely on my TBR list!

6. Animal Print Scrunchies

Sometimes it’s the little things, or in this case the cutely oversized little things. I’ve been wearing these scrunchies non-stop since I got them. The neutral tones go with everything, and they’re actually pretty massive which I find adorable.

7. Phantasy Star Online 2

This might come as a surprise, but I’m actually kind of a gamer! PSO2 recently launched in North America, and Arno and I have had so much fun with it. It’s a free-to-play online action RPG – you get to create your own characters and fight monsters on really beautiful planets. It’s easy to pick up and play, which I love, because it doesn’t require a big time commitment. You can design gorgeous characters (which, lets be real, is half the fun for me!) Plus, it’s the perfect thing when you’re still mainly stuck inside and you’re tired of Netflix and puzzles!
