Wardrobe Staples – My Closet Must Haves

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve definitely come to appreciate the wardrobe staples that I wear again and again – these pieces are the foundation of my closet. Of course, everyone’s wardrobe staples will be different, but I think many of these items can work no matter what your style is!

1. Spanx faux leather leggings

If you know me, you know I can’t live without my Spanx leggings. They are probably the most worn item in my closet – I wear these in all seasons except the summer. They somehow manage to both hold you in and be very comfy – basically magic. I wear my normal size small in them, but if you don’t want the compression you can definitely size up! I’ve got a whole blog post detailing my love for these leggings here.

2. Denim jacket

I’ve had this Old Navy denim jacket for a few years, and I’m still wearing it on repeat. I feel like the light-medium wash is perfect to go with everything. Wear it in the colder months layered with a sweater, or in the warmer months with a dress or skirt.

3. Lace trim cami

When I first bought this top, I thought it was cute but didn’t think it would end up being one of my wardrobe staples. But these camis are surprisingly versatile and look just as cute with ripped jeans or dressed up for work or date night.

4. Black bag

I feel like every girl needs a trusty black bag that can be dressed up or down. For me, it’s this Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody. I love the quilting and that it can be worn as a crossbody or shoulder bag. Despite being rather small, it actually fits a ton! I’ve linked some other options as well, in case you’re looking for something roomier!

5. Moto Jacket

A moto jacket is another piece you’ll get a ton of wear out of. They’re always in style and are so easy to dress up (with a lace cami, jeans, and heels) or down (with a hoodie and leggings). My black faux leather jacket is currently on sale and fits TTS!

6. White sneakers

White sneakers are always a good idea. Seriously, a good pair of white sneaks can be worn with basically any outfit. Plus, your feet will thank you! I have and love the Nike Air Force 1 Sage Low sneakers, but definitely go up half a size if you have wide feet.

7. Light wash jeans

Lately, I find myself reaching for my light wash denim the most. It goes with everything in my closet, and feels very on trend right now. I have both pairs in the collage, and they’re both very comfy and TTS.

8. T-shirt dress

A t-shirt dress is the perfect thing when you want to be comfy and look cute without putting much thought into it. Wear it alone with sandals in the summer, or layered with a denim jacket and sneakers in the spring!

9. Oversized sweater

My wardrobe could never be complete without an oversized sweater. Not only are they perfect with jeans or leggings, but I like to wear mine with skirts, over dresses, or even with denim shorts in the warmer months.

10. Denim shorts

I pretty much live in denim shorts from June – September. It wouldn’t be summer without them! I like mine to fit kind of loose, so I usually size up 1 to 2 sizes.

11. Slide sandals

Slides are the perfect throw on and go sandal, and they work just as well with a dress as they do with shorts and a tee. Old Navy comes out with these minimal slides every year and they are great – very comfortable and they hold up well despite being so inexpensive.
