IKEA Sofa Update with Comfort Works

Last fall we did a big living room update, and now that the seasonal decor has been taken down, I thought I’d do a full post! It had been a long time since we changed anything major in our living room, so it wasn’t really feeling like our style anymore. We really wanted to brighten the space up – it felt much too dark and heavy. I just love how much more light and airy the space looks now!

While I love our IKEA Karlstad sofa, the dark cover had gotten faded from the sun (it’s directly across from a window), and I just wasn’t crazy about the color anymore. We also have 5 cats and well, it showed. The couch is discontinued, and IKEA no longer sells covers for it, so I was thrilled to discover Comfort Works. They make customized replacement slipcovers for a wide range of sofas from IKEA, Pottery Barn, Article, CB2, Arhaus, West Elm, Muji, and more with a ton of fabric and style options to choose from. We took their quiz to figure out which fabric would work best for us, and it recommended the Performance Weave, which is both stain and scratch resistant!! We went with that in the Urban style and Natural color.

It’s been a few months now, and the couch cover is holding up beautifully! Our kittens, who are still learning to use the scratching posts, have definitely tried their claws on the couch. I’m also very clumsy and have spilled coffee on it more than once! The Performance Weave definitely does its job – the texture makes it scratch resistant, and liquids just sit on top of it instead of sinking in. This is exactly what we needed, and it feels like we have a whole new couch!

As you can see, we also got a new living room rug. While I do love that red rug, it was just too much color for the main living area. I’ve learned over the years to always go neutral with the larger pieces in a room, and add color with decor that can be easily switched out. This cream, peach, and blue beauty is from Homesense Canada, but I did find some very similar rugs if you’re in the market for one like this!
