January Faves

We made it to February! I don’t know about you, but January felt looongg for me. I think it was a combination of Ontario’s current lockdown, winter, and being sick for the first half that just made the days blur together. So, here are 6 of my favorite things that helped bring joy and growth to my January!

1. Neutral Abercrombie Hoodie

If I got to dream my perfect hoodie into existence, this would be it! The fit is perfectly oversized, it’s so soft and cozy, and it has the prettiest details. And, it’s legging friendly even on my tall frame! I got a Medium (which is my usual size in Abercrombie tops).

2. Noom

In 2020, there were a lot of feelings to eat. Between the stress, boredom, and uncertainty, I found myself reaching for all the snacks and cooking all the comfort food. It’s understandable – we’re living through a pandemic, after all. But, I ended up feeling sluggish and just not well. I started Noom on January 1st, I’ve learned so much! I feel like my relationship with food is the healthiest it’s ever been.

When I finish my program, I’ll do a full in-depth post about my experience!

3. The Shacket Trend

It took me forever to jump on the shacket (shirt jacket) trend, but now I am 1000% in! I love that shackets are the perfect in between layering piece. This one is so good, but it seems they’re having issues keeping it in stock even though it’s a new item. It’s constantly in and out of stock, so I recommend grabbing it if you see your size! I got my normal small, and it’s perfectly oversized.

4. New Makeup from Tarte

I’m always on the hunt for new beauty products this time of year. Maybe it’s because I’ve hardly left the house, and sweaters just aren’t as exciting as they were in October. But new makeup is always such a good winter pick me up!

I placed a Tarte order during one of their sales, and I absolutely love everything! This eyeshadow palette is so affordable, amazing quality, and I love the pinky-nude shades. I also had to try the Maracuja Juicy lips that everyone is talking about, and I’m hooked! The formula is a mix between a balm and a gloss – so pretty and hydrating. I also picked up another one of my fave lipsticks from them in the perfect warm nude. The Surfer Curl mascara is another recent winner from Tarte!

5. Mornings Without My Phone

I was inspired to try this by one of my fave bloggers, Kathleen Post. She was on her IG stories talking about her resolution to not start her day by scrolling, and that sounded like exactly what I needed. Not only would I reach for my phone basically the second I woke up, I’d also scroll in bed before going to sleep. I had tried to do this before, but it never stuck, because will power isn’t something I have much of at 6am. So, now I put my phone to charge in my office every night before bed, and it’s made such a difference! My mornings are much more intentional, and I have a chance to just be present before reacting to my notifications or the news. Plus, since I’m not scrolling in bed at night, I actually have time to read, which brings me to my next favorite.

6. Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man by Emmanuel Acho

I am so glad I read this book. Emmanuel Acho takes common questions and topics surrounding race (like colorblindness, incarceration, and cultural appropriation) and puts them in context while explaining the issues in an accessible way. I highly, highly recommend this book (and his video series of the same name) to everyone.
