How to Use Idea Pins to Grow on Pinterest

how to use idea pins to grow on pinterest

Pinterest has become one of the main places I’m putting my energy into as a blogger, and a platform I’ve been seeing a ton of success on! It’s really thanks to The Pin Method, created by Emily & Bri at Let’s Get Social Agency (I’ve got a blog post sharing my experience here). Now, LGS has a mini course specifically on Idea Pins (Story Pins) and I’ve found it so incredibly helpful in growing my Pinterest account! The course teaches you everything you need to know about Idea Pins, and the strategy to get the most out of them, including how to use them to make money blogging. The course took me from not even knowing what an Idea Pin was to having over 250k views across my Idea Pins in a couple of months!

I am an affiliate with Let’s Get Social Agency, creators of The Pin Method and the Pin Story mini course. If you purchase a course through the links in this post, I’ll make commission at no extra cost to you. As always, I only promote things I truly love. Thank you for your support!

What even is an Idea Pin (formerly Story Pin)?

Personally, I’m glad Pinterest changed the name from Story Pins to Idea Pins. Story Pins made me think of Instagram Stories, but the two are really completely different types of content. Idea Pins consist of multiple 9:16 frames of video, images, or both. You can also record and edit video clips, as well as add text and audio, right within Pinterest. They are perfect for tutorials, DIYs, round-up style posts, try-ons, and product demos! There are so many creative possibilities with Idea Pins, and the feature is still being updated! You can see my Idea Pins here if you’d like some examples.

To get started with Idea Pins, simply tap the “+” on the Pinterest app or “Create” on the desktop. Then you should see Idea Pin as an option! From there, you can add and create your content!

Why focus on Idea Pins for Pinterest?

Idea Pins are a new feature, and all platforms really encourage adoption of new features. Pinterest is no exception, and they’ve been really highlighting & promoting Idea Pins. Because of this, Idea Pins are an amazing way to get a ton of eyes on your content quickly, and grow your audience. They are also a great way to repurpose your content (more on that inside the Pin Story Mini Course), and who doesn’t like making your content go further? Like all Pins, Idea Pins have a long shelf-life – I’m still getting engagement on content I posted months ago! Plus, they’re really geared towards SEO with the tagging feature, which makes it easier for the right people to find your Idea Pins.

I’ve also put together a best practices checklist to help you make sure all of the elements of your Idea Pins are working for you and helping to grow your Pinterest – grab it free below!
