It’s August! We had a little taste of cooler weather in July, but now we’re back in a heat wave. July was a busy month for me with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but it was also so much fun as things have opened up again more. We actually went to restaurants for the first time in over a year!
Here are 5 things I’ve been loving in July!
1. The Perfect T-Shirt Dress
Some items are really simple yet also hard to find. I was on the hunt for the perfect t-shirt dress all spring and summer, and I finally found it! This one is just the right amount of oversized and the material isn’t stiff or clingy. It fits TTS (wearing S), though if you’re shorter than me (I’m 5’8″) you might want to get a petite so it’s not too long! Comes in a bunch of different colors, but this muted terra cotta color is literally my all time fave color.
2. Wearing an Unbuttoned Shirt as a Layer
I have been seeing this trend everywhere lately and I love it! A lightweight open shirt is the perfect layer for summer, and adds interest to your outfit if you’re getting bored with the standard tank and shorts (I know I am). This trend looks super cute with a dress too, and as the temps drop you can switch it out for a shirt jacket. Here are some ways I’ve worn this look:
3. Steve Madden Chain Mules
As soon as I tried on these shoes from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I knew they had to come home with me. I love the shiny chunky chain detail and the pointed toes don’t make my feet look too long. Plus, they’re so comfortable! I got my true size 9.
4. This Mini Tarte Eyeshadow Palette
Tarte makes some of my favorite eyeshadow palettes, and their quality is always amazing. I picked up this little mini palette, and I’ve been wearing it non stop this summer! I did a quick little tutorial on IG Reels – only 2 colors and so easy!
5. Taking Breaks
With how intense hustle culture has become, actually taking time to rest can make you feel like you’re lazy. I know I often feel that way, so I just keep pushing myself to do more of everything, to the point where I’m not even efficient anymore. Blogging is so much fun and I’m so happy I get to do this, but on the flip side there are basically no boundaries between work and life. For me that means feeling like I should be working all the time. At the beginning of July, I was feeling really overwhelmed and stressed, and Arno finally convinced me to take more breaks. So I started completely unplugging one day a week, and wow has it been helpful!
All this to say – hard work is important and sometimes you’re just in a season of life where you have to hustle. But burn out serves no one, and you’ll be more productive (and happier) in the long run when you protect your energy and let yourself rest. Your worth as a person does not depend on your productivity. I’ll continue telling myself that until it sticks 🤍
