DIY Suede Drawer Pulls

We were kinda bored with our IKEA Malm dresser (and I kept breaking my nails opening the drawers!) but getting a new one wasn’t in the budget. We needed a quick and afforable way to update it and brighten it up (the solid black block look wasn’t doing it for me), so enter these super easy suede/leather drawer pulls! They cost us a total of a little over $20 to make, and I just love how they turned out. It’s been over a year now and I’m happy to report they’ve held up beautifully!

You’ll Need:

  • MALM dresser, or any piece of furniture with drawer fronts that aren’t inset. If yours are, simply skip the wrapping around and neatly cut the suede.
  • Craft Suede Strip, 1.5″ x 42″ This is what we used and it was the perfect amount for 4 pulls with some extra. You could also use leather or vegan leather instead!
  • Gold Finishing Nails You can find these at the hardware store. I think ours came in a picture hanging kit.
  • Super Glue

How To:

  1. Cut suede into 8″ (20cm) long strips.
  2. Fold each strip onto itself to make a loop, leaving a tab of about 1.5″ (4cm) extra.
  3. Add a small dot of super glue onto the suede to secure the loop.
  4. Use finishing nails to fasten the loop to the drawer, making sure the cut end of the loop is facing the drawer and flush with the top.
  5. Fold remainder tightly over the top of the drawer and attach with super glue.

And voila! I love how easy, inexpensive, and quick this project is. If you end up doing this DIY, let me know! I’d love to see photos!

  1. I love this dresser! The drawers are so deep. And what a cool way to stack your jeans- like a file cabinet! I know you say you don’t love the bureau, it pairs nicely with the bed, and the new drawer pulls let it blend with all of the softness in your room.
Your sense of color, style and texture is impeccable, not surprising. I love that your artistic side,(and Arno’s diy saavy), has created such a lovely and happy space. ❤️

    1. Thank you for such a lovely comment!! <3 And yes, I agree the drawer pulls really help soften the look; I was actually pleasantly surprised at what a difference they made. I learned that way of folding from Marie Kondo's book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up", it's so nice to be able to see everything you have and take a pair out without disturbing a whole stack!

  2. My boyfriend has this dresser and I’d really like to do this exact glow-up since we’ll be moving in together!

Where did you get the glass white top on top? I love it and would want to implement as well!

    Thanks for SUCH great inspiration!

    1. Thanks Melissa! I’m so glad you found this inspiring! The glass top is actually from Ikea as well, it’s this one

I’d love to see a photo of your take on this DIY too!

      1. Hi Nayla,
I love the small makeup area to the right. Could you share any of the products specifically the desk? My daughter would love a small area to do her makeup at like yours.

  3. Can you please provide detail about the other products(from where you purchased it) in this picture like chair, dresser and wall decoration
