Over the knee boots are one of those pieces I wanted for awhile but hesitated getting because I wasn’t sure I’d get enough wear out of them. I was worried they’d be too “much” for everyday life, and I hardly ever go anywhere that really warrants dressing up. Now I just wish I’d gotten them sooner! They’re surprisingly versatile and can be worn in really any season except summer.
Since it’s starting to feel like spring, I thought I’d share how I like to style my OTK boots for this season. I actually started this post before social distancing became a necessity, so there actually hasn’t been boot-wearing of any kind around here in awhile. Still, I’d like to post this anyway, in anticipation of when we’ll be able to wear cute outfits outside again. Side note: staying home has really made me miss and therefore appreciate simple things like just going for a walk in the neighborhood or grabbing a coffee. I’m sure, when things return to normal more, that the little things will feel even more special.
My exact boots are these from Chinese Laundry. I find they fit TTS and are quite comfortable! They’ve got a bit of a heel, which I like, but I have no problem walking in them for a few hours! I have pretty thin calves with bigger feet, and had a hard time finding boots that didn’t look baggy and actually stayed up, but these do! I love the warm taupe color because it really goes with everything and it and works for spring, fall, and winter. I linked some other OTK boot options at the bottom of the post!
Here’s how I like to wear them:
With a dress and jacket – This is a great way to wear a dress a little sooner than you might normally be able to! OTK boots keep your legs warm, and I prefer not to wear tights (they always rip!). You could also wear this combo with a moto jacket, a utility jacket, or a top + skirt instead of a dress!
With a tank, cardigan, and jeans – This is one of my standard outfit formulas in the spring and the fall, and OTK boots can be a fun way to switch it up from the usual ankle boots.
With white denim – I love OTK boots with white jeans, I think it’s just such a crisp and chic combo!
With a sweater and a miniskirt – The slouchy sweater + skirt combo is one of my favorite spring outfit. It’s comfy and easy, and you look put together even though you could probably sleep in this outfit. For cooler days, OTK boots are a great way to keep your legs warm and add some polish.
With a tunic top and jeans – I love the contrast between a long flowy top and OTK boots, with just a bit of your jeans showing. Tops like this are one of my favorite things to wear in the spring, and I love how the boots give you another outfit option!
